DivorceCare - DivorceCare is a special weekly seminar and support group for people separated or divorced.  It's a place where you can be around people who understand what you are feeling and where you can hear valuable information about ways to heal from the hurt of divorce.  13 Tuesdays beginning January 12, 2010.  Led by Kathy Guisewite and Joshua Redding, 7-8:30 PM  $12 for workbooks.  Group will be held at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church, 1552 South High Street, Harrisonburg.

 

Becoming Financially Wise - This is a three-session interactive seminar for singles or couples who want to learn new skills in managing money.  The seminar hosted by Mennonite Mutual Aid at FLRC.  Led by Stephen Cavanaugh, Joseph Lapp, Glen Kauffman and Joseph Shenk.  Offered Thursdays, January 14-28 from 7:00-8:30 PM at no-charge- but must pre-register.

 

A Picture of Healing:  Group Therapy with Visuals Arts - This support group will use the dynamics and principles of group therapy coupled with expressive art techniques to promote healing and growth for persons experiencing emotional pain and/or trauma.  This support group will last for four-sessions.  Led by Andrea Bieber, LPC.  Begins 2/1/10 for four Monday evenings from 4-6 PM.  Cost is $40.00.  Please call for more information.

 

TransParenting - The effects of divorce on children can be negative and potentially long term.  Children must master an additional set of tasks, as well as those posed by normal childhood development.  Transparenting educates parents and family members as to ways they can help their children adjust and handle these additional tasks.  This four-hour workshop is required by the Virginia court system and is offered twice each month.  This seminar is led by Andrea Bieber, LPC and Mark Sensabaugh, LPC & LMFT.  Offered monthly on the Third Friday (8:00 AM) and Saturday (9:00 AM)  $50.00/person.  If salary is less than $25,000 cost is $35.00.  Registration and payment must be made in advance.

 

Marriage Enrichment Series - This four session seminar, based on the book Lasting Marriage: The Owner's Manual, will concentrate on the four areas of problem solving with each partner taking responsibility for the appropriate area.  Led by Harvey Yoder, LPC.  Offered Mondays January 18-February 8 at 7:00 to 8:30 PM.  There is no charge for this seminar but a freewill offering will be accepted.  Text is available for $10.00.

 

Assertiveness Training Class - This is a six-session course to increase communication effectiveness. Topics covered include:  Relationship Enhancement - art of encouragement; to receive compliments; to express love and affection.  Self-protective Assertiveness - to disagree with someone comfortably; to state your own feelings and beliefs; to express anger and deal with another's anger appropriately; to say no without feeling guilty; to give and receive feedback.  This workshop is led by Dr. Kathryn Rexrode Moats.  Begins March 2- April 6, 6:30 - 8:00 PM.  $70.00/person.

 

Positive Parenting Class - This five-session program offers help in becoming more confident and effective parents.  The text used is Common Sense Parenting.  Led by Harvey Yoder, LPC. Offered Mondays, March 1- 29 at 7:00 to 8:30 PM.  $40.00/person or $70.00/couple.  The text is included in cost.

 

TO KNOT OR NOT TO KNOT? - An eye-opening seminar for couples in an ongoing relationship (but not engaged), will be held on February 14 (Valentines Day!) at EMU's University Commons, room 212, from 2-5 pm.  Cost is $10 per couple, free to EMU students.  Contact byron.peachey@emu.edu or call 432-4132 to register.

 

RECOVERY OF HOPE(for marriages in distress)- This is a program for couples who are experiencing disillusionment in their marriages.  Recovery of Hope provides the couple with time to review their marriage and to make decisions about the future of their relationship through two distinct programs:  the Seminar and the Intensive Marital Program.  These sessions are scheduled to meet the couples need.  Please call for more information.

 

New Seminar

 

Mentor Couple Training - To train lead mentor couples from local congregations to be prepared to begin a marriage mentoring program in their congregation.  Using Dr. Les & Leslie Parrott's Marriage Mentoring Kit - the seminar will include essential skills needed for marriage mentors, how to start a marriage mentor ministry, future equipping opportunities like using Prepare/Enrich premarital inventory.  Led by Mark Sensabaugh, LPC & Dr. Kathryn Rexrode Moats, PhD.  Offered Friday from 7- 9 PM & Saturday, from 8:30 AM- 12:30 PM., January 29-30, $25/couple.
